Cornerstone Youth Centre is SVP Calgary’s Newest Investee

June 15, 2018 – Cornerstone Youth Centre is SVP Calgary’s newest investee.  An “All Partner Vote” was held on Thursday, June 14, 2018 and 78 percent of SVP Calgary partners used their membership vote to select the winning organization.

SVP Calgary partners faced a tough decision after watching strong presentations from the two finalists, Cornerstone Youth Centre and Rocky Mountain Adaptive, both Calgary-based not for profits. Executive Directors, Jeff Gray (CYC) and Jamie McCulloch (RMA), each had the opportunity to give a 20-minute presentation, highlighting their unique organization, the purpose they serve in our community and how they could benefit from SVP support. The SVP Investment Committee, which has been working for the past six months to set parameters and narrow down the list of applicants, also gave a short presentation offering their insight into the finalists. Partners then voted and selected Cornerstone Youth Centre as the newest investee to partner with for the next three to five years.  They will receive $15,000 in their first year as an investee.

“Being the next SVP Calgary investee means that Cornerstone Youth Centre has now aggressively expanded our wealth of experience to draw upon in order to navigate and plan successful launches and expansion in territories unknown to us…yet,” said Jeff Gray, Executive Director, Cornerstone Youth Centre. “Taking the known value and impact of our programs, to the unknown world of expansion, and scaling with a guided hand to dodge the potholes and a critical eye to enrich our outcomes.”

‘We are thrilled with how the process went, allowing our partners to participate in selecting our next investee," said Lindsay Read, Executive Director, SVP Calgary. ‘You could feel the enthusiasm in the room tonight and I think it will bring us some great momentum to get our partners engaged with Cornerstone Youth Centre." Last year, SVP Calgary introduced the voting process to increase engagement among partners. Dare to Care was selected and will continue on in their second year as an investee. This year, they will receive $20,000 in unrestricted funding, as well as an additional $10,000 to be specifically used towards measurement and impact of their programs.

With the addition of a new investee comes the graduation of a current investee, CanLearn Society.  Over the past four years, they have received $65,000 in unrestricted funding from SVP Calgary and experienced growth in various programs as well as their physical space. SVP wishes CanLearn Society all the best in their future.
