Larry Leach

Board Chair

Larry is our Board Chair. He is very active volunteering in our community as Past President of Crossroads Community Association, Board Member at Phoenix Education Foundation , Past President of Calgary Eagles Soccer Club. He is employed as Executive Director of 12 Community Safety Initiative in Calgary and brings a passion for communication and building healthy communities and encourages everyone to "Shout it from the Rooftops" and share the Cornerstone story. In the past he has blogged with the Huffington Post, his own Small Business Marketing and Advertising Blog and on education issues with ARTICS (knowyourtrustee.com). In 2013, Larry received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for community service and was named a 2019 "Face of Calgary Communities" with the Federation of Calgary Communities. Larry, his wife live in the Crossroads community in Calgary and Larry has been involved in this community in many ways since 2000. 

Scott Irvine

Scott Irvine has been with Microsoft for 7 years based in Calgary supporting Enterprise clients across Western Canada.  For the past 3 years he has been the Sr. Data and AI Sales Specialist helping local clients explore new projects related to big data, machine learning, IoT and AI.  Prior to that Scott worked at Bell Canada for 10 years in a number of roles including building out their ICT Data Center Practice in Western Canada.  Scott has a Bachalor of Commerce from Ryerson University is a certified Artificial  Intelligence Engineer from Microsoft and holds an Executive Strategy Certification from Wharton University.  He sits on the IT Advisory Board for Woods Homes.

Bill Welch

Bill has been a volunteer with Cornerstone since the summer of 1996 and enjoys spending time with the youth building puzzles and playing games. Bill works in the field of software quality assurance and is currently at P2 Energy Solutions. In 2005, Bill was awarded the Alberta Centennial Medal in recognition of outstanding service to the people and province of Alberta.

Salimah Kassan

Salimah is an empathetic, resourceful and driven leader who is determined to make meaningful impacts on the people and systems in Calgary. Driven to envision and execute strategy, galvanize resources, track results, and make lasting shifts in society, Salimah is a trusted collaborator and innovation co-conspirator within Calgary’s social impact and economic development networks. She is a subject matter expert in policy development, asset-building, poverty reduction, community economic development and behavioural economics. Salimah is a key player in launching, building and executing Calgary’s poverty reduction plan and Canada’s national financial empowerment movement. Salimah is currently the Executive Director of Sunrise Community Resource Centre, supporting an amazing team of compassionate people serving citizens living on low incomes in South East Calgary. Salimah is the President of the Board at Downstage Theatre, a board member with Arts Commons and volunteers with the Ismaili Muslim community.

Nancy Hughes

Nancy is currently the Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer at Bethany Care Society, one of Western Canada’s largest voluntary, not-for- profit providers of health, housing and community services for seniors and persons with disabilities. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing degree and a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) degree from the University of Calgary and a Master of Health Services Administration degree from the University of Alberta. With over 30 years of experience in healthcare, Nancy has a keen interest in the development and implementation of innovative service delivery models with a particular emphasis on access management, resource utilization and system and business process redesign. She has been involved in several large capital projects, including the design and commissioning of the South Health Campus and of Bethany Riverview – Bethany Care Society’s newest purpose built centre for dementia care.

Scott Gordon

Scott is Assistant General Counsel (Downstream & Corporate) at Imperial Oil. Since joining the Imperial Law Department in 2010, Scott has worked in several different legal portfolios, including litigation, claims, project development, labour & employment, conventional upstream, bankruptcy & insolvency, and land. Prior to working at Imperial Oil, Scott worked as legal counsel at Norton Rose Fulbright LLP. Scott volunteers at Calgary Legal Guidance (12 years) and the Civil Claims Duty Counsel Project (5 years). Scott was also involved in Social Ventures Partners “Fast Pitch” program (2016, 2017). Scott has a JD from Dalhousie University (2006), and a B.A. (Great Distinction) form the University of Saskatchewan (2002). 

Tyler Lynem 

Tyler is a born and raised Calgarian and has lived here for most of his life. He went to post-secondary school here and graduated from the University of Calgary with a degree in Economics in 2007 and obtained his CPA designation in 2015. He is now putting his accounting designation to good use and is a Corporate Controller for an oil and gas company based here in Calgary. Prior to a career in Finance, Tyler played professional football for the Calgary Stampeders from 2004 to 2007 where he was able to serve as an ambassador for the city and was an active member of the community. Tyler also spent several years living in Vancouver, BC where he married his wife and had their two children (Sawyer & Irelyn) prior to moving back to Calgary in 2017. In his spare time, he enjoys playing most sports, particularly golf, football, skiing, swimming and of course any sports that the kids are active in at the time.

Robyn James

Robyn is a skilled generalist with over seven years of experience providing innovative marketing, communications, and design solutions for a number of high-profile clients. In her current role, she manages multi-faceted accounts on a wide range of project work, including strategic planning, branding, social media management, content marketing and media relations.  

Robyn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Development Economics and International Development from the University of Calgary, a Certificate of Graphic Design from the Alberta University of the Arts, and is ICS 100, Google Ads and Google Analytics certified.

Justin Acton

Justin is an experienced Cash Management Advisor currently employed at Servus Credit Union. Justin has a BFA from the University of Calgary. Justin grew up in the Greater Forest Lawn area and has spent the last twenty in Albert Park/Radisson Heights. Justin also volunteers with the Albert Park/Radisson Heights Community Initiatives Group and the Imaginative Fiction Writers Association of Calgary.

Michelle  Sartor

Michelle has over 9 years of accounting, internal controls and tax experience. She is currently the Finance Manager at Rindahl Ryan Chartered Professional Accountants LLP, assisting clients with all their financial reporting needs. Previously she worked at a junior oil and gas company as an integral member of the internal and external reporting team. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting) from Mount Royal University (2011) and earned her Chartered Professional Accountant designation (2014) while working at KPMG LLP in both the assurance and tax practices.
